Progressives for Iranian Democracy are Iranian Americans deeply committed to the ideals of democracy and the sanctity of human rights. We believe that foreign policy should center on human rights, peace, and justice, and we understand that grassroots, people-powered movements can shift policy in the right direction. Our work builds understanding and educational relationships between the Iranian Diaspora and those with the power to effect change while highlighting how the values of democracy and secularism can flourish in Iran.
As we advance our mission through our nonpartisan work, we bear in mind that no group outside Iran can ultimately speak for the people inside Iran. Accordingly, we do not support any one party or leader inside or outside Iran. Our support is for human rights and democratic processes; we seek to be a megaphone for Iranians’ calls for fundamental rights, not their voice.
We demand an end to the gender apartheid in Iran that denies women equal protection under the law and autonomy over their bodies, while treating them as second-class citizens.
We demand an end to the incarceration, execution, and torture of the Iranian freedom fighters who are subjected to extreme violence for their human rights advocacy.
We pursue a future Iran that protects the human rights and civil rights of its citizens while giving them the power to choose their political representatives through free and democratic elections.
