The Iranian Diaspora enjoys diverse experiences, political beliefs, and ideologies. We are united in pursuit of a Free and Democratic Iran. As Progressives for Iranian Democracy, most of our members identify as Democrats. We see this as an opportunity to play an important role in rallying Democratic support for Iranian democracy while collaborating with Iranian-Americans and allies across the political spectrum.
To help you understand our members’ shared values, we offer some of their responses when asked for their definition of progressive:
- Walking the walk AND talking the talk to progress human rights, society, and the economy by using our voices to amplify those of the oppressed, and by meeting with and advocating with our governing bodies to achieve this.
- Progressive means an attitude of open-mindedness and kindness toward different people and ideas.
- Advocating for the implementation of social policies that aim to promote equality, justice, and fairness.
- Progressive means a movement toward inclusivity, civil rights, and equality. Progressives are not tied to how things are or were. Progressives are pulled toward how things ought to be.
- I view progressivism as an approach to advocate for human rights, dignity, and security, with accountability and transparency.
- To be open to possibilities and don’t stop fighting for what’s right.
